Today on March 22, we celebrate the yearly World Water Day. As the old saying goes, water means life. We rely on clean water for our health and living, but it’s also a huge part of our leisure and fun. Yet there are 2 billion people in the world living without access to safe water.

World Water Day has been held every year since 1993 and we need this day to acknowledge the lack of safe water, and to remember to make sustainable choices towards saving water. Today, we challenge you to think about your industry or daily living: what could you do better?

Water runs the process industry

As we all know, water has an enormous impact on our lives. However, we still use water way too carelessly in our daily lives as well as in the process industry. The 2030 Agenda of United Nations includes goals for ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

The United Nations is working for a sustainable future. Agenda 2030 has set a water-related goal to substantially increase water-use efficiency across all sectors and ensure sustainable withdrawals and supply of freshwater to address water scarcity. The aim is to significantly reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity by 2030. There is clearly still a lot of work to do towards this goal.

A significant amount of water consumption comes from the process industry every year. Water is used in many different ways in the industry. It’s needed for cleaning, cooling, production and processing. Then there’s wastewater, rainwater – the list is endlessly long. That’s the reason for us to take responsibility and make sustainable choices in the industry.

Water and wastewater industry – how can we make changes?

Industrial effluents are one of the biggest causes of water pollution. Water and wastewater treatment plants collect effluents from industrial and municipal sources that are treated and cleaned to a purification level, so that the water can be reused. However, wastewater treatment involves challenging processes, like the usage of toxic chemicals at high costs.

Altum’s unique ZPD technology is a solution that gives various benefits to many different industries, such as the water and wastewater industry.

Here are some benefits of using ZPD Ultrasonic Technology in water treatment:

  • Removes all kinds and types of biofouling. ZPD is an extremely strong emulsifier and will break the hardest fat blockages in pipes and unclog them in minutes. Besides shock treatment abilities, it is a useful prevention tool, particularly in places with an irregular flow.
  • Potential to improve and speed up the disinfection process (either alone or with chemicals).
  • Allows you to increase the dry material content in wet sludge by around 2-5%, giving significant savings in transportation costs and reducing landfill space needs and costs.
  • Effective, continuous removal of mineral build-ups, since ZPD has a scaling prevention effect over long distances (up to several tens of meters), without any need for toxic chemicals.
