REMOVING FAT FOULING FROM PIPES

SEWAGE TREATMENT COMPANY | FINLAND

By treating hard fat fouling on pipe surfaces with ultrasound, pump operation was restored.

ISSUE

This facility was having issues with hard fat fouling in a pipeline. The layer of fat was approximately one centimeter thick, which affected the operation and put strain on the pump.

Pipe with ultrasound transducers being installed on the surface.

SOLUTION

Altum’s ZPD (Zero Process Downtime) multichannel solution was installed on the pipeline.

The pipeline underwent two sonication sessions to remove the fouling, each in different parts of the pipeline.

RESULTS

Immediately after the first sonication the pump’s operation was improved. After both sonication sessions, the pipes were cleaned completely. Based on the customer’s previous experiences in cleaning this type of fouling, no other method has been as effective and simple to implement as power ultrasound.
