World Zero Emissions day

Today, on September 21st, we celebrate World Zero Emissions Day – a day dedicated to demanding a future without air pollution to slow down global warming. The purpose of this day is to try and give our planet a break from fossil fuels and what they release into the air, for at least one day every year.

Zero Emissions Day encourages individuals and businesses to do their part to protect the environment. It reminds us that we all have a role in protecting our planet and strive towards a future of environmental sustainability. We can all start by minimizing or eliminating the use of electricity generated by fossil fuels and learn the 5 R’s: refuse, reduce, reuse, rot, and recycle.

The idea began in 2008 in Nova Scotia, Canada, when activist Ken Wallace launched the official ZeDay with the slogan: “Giving our planet a day off a year.” The aim is to allow the Earth to breathe and make us consider our energy consumption and act responsibly.

Industrial companies are crucial players in emissions reduction

World Zero Emissions Day is an opportunity for individuals and companies to consider and reduce their emissions. This post will concentrate on what industrial companies can do to let the Earth breathe.

The world relies on industrial activities for various products, materials, and services. Petroleum refining, chemical manufacturing, and food and beverage production are just a few examples. Emissions from industrial activities and sectors, including construction, manufacturing, and electricity and heat, constitute around one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions. This is why industrial decarbonization is the key to reducing global emissions and creating a more sustainable future.

There are many ways to tackle the emission game

Industrial organizations and businesses can employ diverse decarbonization technologies, intelligent strategies, and policies to attain their net-zero objectives. Additionally, they can embrace lower-carbon manufacturing technologies without sacrificing profitability or efficiency.

Industrial decarbonization is a primary solution to rising industrial emissions. It refers to phasing out GHG emissions from every aspect of industrial processing and production without affecting the sector’s essential contributions to global economic growth and prosperity.

Top tips for companies to reduce their emissions

  1. Improved energy efficiency
  2. Monitoring energy use
  3. Using new manufacturing techniques
  4. Switching to lower-emitting fuels
  5. Developing an internal carbon price
  6. Carbon capture, utilization, and storage
  7. Implement Digital Tools (such as IoT and data analytics) to improve equipment maintenance and increase process efficiency.
